Here are pictures of two of my most recent finished quilts!  The feeling of accomplishment once I finish a project is something I will never tire of....maybe that's why I like quilting so much!?

This was my first attempt at a t-shirt quilt -- my mother-in-law came to visit a few months ago and brought with her a stack of my sister-in-law's old t-shirts cut into various sized squares -- she was hoping that I would be able to fashion some sort of quilt of the shirts for my sister-in-law's birthday (Happy Birthday!).   I was certainly intimidated by the task, but willing to give it a go -- this is what I ended up making.  I wish I could have done more with the quilting, but the t-shirts were difficult to sew, and I thought I better leave well enough alone.
All in all, I am very pleased with how it turned out!  The t-shirts made this quilt incredibly soft and cuddly, which is always a huge plus in my book!

This next quilt was commissioned by a good friend of mine.  She had bought one of the very first quilts I ever made and fell in love with it...however, she was looking for something bigger in size that she and her family could curl up with on the couch and that she could use to stay warm during her morning Bible studies.  She was immediately attracted to Kaffee Fassett's fabric designs -- and I am so glad that she was!  This was my first time working with these fabrics, and it was a pleasure!

wow, LOVE the colors in that Kaffe-fassett! Im a military wife with a slight little obsession with sewing as well, Im going to be making my first t-shirt quilt soon! Ive cut the shirts up, now I just need to make the thing hahaha. Im not sure what kind of sashing to use though, did you use muslin? or just a beige fabric?

Amber -- thanks for writing in! Cutting the shirts is half the battle! Luckily my mother-in-law already had them cut, otherwise I would probably still be looking at a pile of t-shirts! Yes, I used Muslin for my t-shirt quilt -- I decided to keep it a neutral color to allow the shirts to stand out -- but really I could see any cotton fabric working, even patterned (depending on your shirts...) -- best of luck with your quilt, if you have any questions send me an email and I'll see if I can help!

I haven't made a quilt from t-shirts, but I've made two from my grandfathers {very} well-worn long-sleeve button ups. The first one was terribly frustrating with all of the stretching and pulling. On the second one, I ironed a very light weight fusible interfacing onto the wrong side of the shirts before I cut them out. It made life so much easier, but the quilt has a tiny bit more stiffness to it than I would prefer. Next time, I'm going to try a water-soluble stabilizer. I think it will still make the cutting and sewing easier, but the quilt will be super soft after it's washed and the stabilizer dissolves.

Sarah -- I love your idea of the dissolvable interfacing! I used a fusible interfacing on the back of the shirts for this quilt, and that is what made the quilting so hard -- between the backing, batting, interfacing and thick t-shirt material it was a challenge to get the stitching right...if I do a t-shirt quilt again I think I will look for a lighter weight interfacing and, now with your tip, I'll look for dissolvable too! Thanks!
